2015 Gold Awards

Congratulations to Brittany Carter  and Erin Lewis

“We Did It”.  They have earned the highest award in Girl Scouting.  The “Gold Award” was awarded to Brittany Carter and Erin Lewis on March 14, 2015 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

The Gold Award is a national award, with national standards, it represents years of community service, personal achievement and true dedication to the Girl Scout Program.  At a minimum, the project must encumber 80 hours of the girls’ time and involve a sustainable community issue of the girls' choosing.  The initial project proposal and final submission upon completion are both required to be approved from Girl Scouts Virginia Skyline Council Gold Award Committee.

Brittany Carter, an 18 year old freshman currently a student at Virginia Tech, graduated in the Class of 2014 from Culpeper County High School.  Brittany began her journey as a Girl Scout at the age of 5, in Kindergarten as a Daisy.  Her Gold Project “Notes of Achievement” began from her love of music and belief that the arts programs in our schools are worth showcasing.  Brittany organized and then categorized the music pieces for Culpeper County High Schools marching band program which serves both EVHS and CCHS.  The completion of her project was with the construction of a large trophy case for the Culpeper Middle School Band to display their coveted trophies.

Erin Lewis, an 18 year old freshman currently attending Germanna Community College, graduated in the Class of 2014 from Eastern View High School.  Erin joined Girl Scouts in First Grade.  Her Gold Project “Blessings for Babies” stemmed from her love for children.  Erin worked closely with Dawnette Willlems, Director of Young Lives (a division of Young Life), to establish a supply resource closet for the needs of teenage mothers.  Erin presented her program to area churches and received an outpouring of support from the community.  The closet is currently located at Culpeper Presbyterian Church.

Both girls are members Troop 959 with Leader, Christie Carter.  The girls earned many awards throughout their Girl Scouting careers, including the Bronze and Silver Awards.

An American Flag was flown at the US Capital on March 14 in honor of the girls' accomplishment.

2014 Silver Awards

Congratulations to Emily Resau

Local Culpeper girl receives her Silver Award.  Emily Resau received her award in August of 2014 with her Tooth Fairy Project.  For her project she made plushes in shapes of teeth and toothpaste for patients to hold for comfort while receiving their dental work.  In addition she made tooth fairy bags that would be given to the children having their tooth pulled that they could put their tooth in and leave under their pillows for the Tooth Fairy.  This was a very rewarding project in seeing how excited the dentist was in receiving her idea and receiving updates on how successful they were with the patients.  She would like to thank everyone involved for their support in her project and for making it a success.
